Powered by Pogo

​​Making healthy choices should be easy! That's why the Pogo Fruit & Veggie UP! Coalition has partnered with Firelake Discount Foods and Paul's Place Steakhouse to help consumers easily identify foods that deliciously support a healthy lifestyle. 

This program promotes and highlights good-for-you foods in participating grocery stores and restaurants in Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma.

If you own and operate a business that sells food in Pottawatomie County, we'd love for your organization to participate in the Powered by Pogo program!

So far, we have grocery stores & restaurants participating, but we are also open to opportunities to partner with food trucks, cottage food makers, and others. Let's chat about your business and how we can work together to offer good-for-you foods throughout our community.

What makes food qualify as "Powered by Pogo"?

The Oklahoma State University Department of Nutritional Sciences developed the the criteria for grocery stores. Restauranteurs & dietitians developed criteria for restaurant dishes. These criteria are listed below.

Remember, participating grocery stores and restaurants have taken the guessing game out of the way for you! All you need to do is look for the Powered by Pogo thumbs-up icon to know that it's the healthy option!

Grocery Criteria

  • All fresh fruits & vegetables are Powered by Pogo approved!

  • Canned and frozen fruits qualify if they have 4 grams or less of sugar and at least 2.5 grams of fiber per serving. 

  • Canned or frozen vegetables qualify if they have less than or equal to 250 milligrams of sodium and 2 or more grams of fiber per serving.  

Restaurant Dishes Criteria

  • Grocery fruit and vegetable guidelines apply

  • ​Feature fruits and vegetables; at least ½ the dish

  • No fried foods of any kind

  • The ratio of added fat to fruit/vegetable should be no more than 1 tsp to 3 oz; Use olive or canola oil instead of butter. 

  • The ratio of added sugar to fruit/vegetable should be no more than 1 tsp to 3 oz. Preferably uses honey, unrefined whole-cane sugar, or other natural sweeteners

  • Default dressings on the side - this includes salad dressings and sandwich toppings
